Great time at Rahr on Saturday with my fraternity bros. If you are ever in Fort Worth on a Saturday from 1-3pm Rahr has beer tasting. You pay $7 and get a glass to keep and 3 beers. I found a combination that is their Blonde and Texas Red beer to make a Strawberry blonde. Go check it out it’s something social to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Pi Kappa Alpha…Once a Pike, Always a Pike.

Pike has given me something that I never had, brothers. I’ve learned from being an adviser for my chapter that I love being a mentor. Helping to shape the lives of these young men. My goal in life is to at least know that I’ve done good for at least a few people. I want nothing more than these guys to grow up and become successful business men. There are a lot of times that you feel let down, or have no one to talk to, but for me Pike is that outlet. I’ve learned more things about myself by being involved in Pike and more recently, as an alumnus, than ever before. I take pride in my university and my fraternity as they are both life long commitments. Being a founding father of the Epsilon Delta chapter is and was such a great feeling. I try do anything and everything possible to ensure that I stay involved and make this chapter successful. At times I’ve felt alone but I know that’s not the case. We just recently had a few alumni donate $100,000+ to our chapter. I can only hope that one day I could donate that type of money to something that I love. I admit, I’m probably way more involved than I should be; but, its only because it means a lot to me. I know that if someone is not leading by example then nothing will ever be accomplished. I always strive to lead by example and only hope that the chapter will catch on. I’m extremely excited for this upcoming 2011-2012 school year as the chapter is already off to an extremely energetic start.

What I do…

It always seems like people ask me exactly what it is that I do?
Good question, I’m an entrepreneur, I can’t just settle on one individual task or job.

After graduating from the University of North Texas in 2008; with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, Television, & Film, I landed my first full time job. My job was actually  a non-existent job and was created for me. I manage all our social media, I.T., assist with music programming, promotions and all streaming/digital aspects of a radio station. I’m currently employed, full time, by LKCM Radio Group. LKCM owns about 14 radio stations and in some way I’m involved with every single one of them. Our flag ship station would be considered 95.9 The Ranch. I started with The Ranch back in 2003 when Toby Hamm, who now works with Randy Rogers, assisted me in gaining my first real radio gig. I started out as a paid intern filing music, doing promotions assistant work, and learning the ins and outs of becoming a board operator. I never really knew that radio would be where I’d end up, but here I am. I love every aspect of my job and for me networking is what I like doing. I thrive off the relationships that I make and in return led me to start working and managing a band back in 2008. When I’m not at the station; I’m managing the Clay Wilson Band. I’m trying to grow a management company that I started a couple of years ago called, Big D Management. It’s started to grow a reputation of being able to prove itself by continuing to grow in the ways I never thought I’d achieve. “Passion” is the key to my success and with out it you are nothing. You must have the Passion to deal with the frustration’s of management, bands, industry professionals, booking agents, band members, venues, and of course the all mighty dollar. There is a lot to learn in an industry that seems to be in jeopardy. I’m constantly interested in people’s listening habits, why they go to a show, or listen to a certain type of music. I realize more and more that I can’t just depend on other people do the work, but yet, I have to put in the time, effort, and experience in order to make it what I want it to be.

As the days go by there is always something to be taken it from it. I’ve learned that your friendships will get you farther than anything else that you could ever imagine.

Wade Bowen - Saturday Night (New Radio Single, Sept 2012) | Wade has always been one of my favorite Texas singer/songwriters. His ability to pull the emotion out of his songs and carry it to his fans on stage is amazing. He definitely has come a long way in his musical career and I can not wait until the release of his new album.

Entourage Finale…equals NOT happy.

We’ll it seems to me like they took the easy way out by making tonight’s ending of Entourage a happy ending for all except me. I for saw this coming, however, they did leave a bit of suspense hanging in the sky with the job offer at the end with Ari. I dunno, could it be; another season of Entourage? We will just have to wait and see if there is some sort of future with Mr. Gold and my guess is that there won’t be but I can only hope, right?

After the Finale

Really excited for the guys show at Rockin’ Rodeo in Denton Tx on this Thursday. I’m expecting a GREAT turnout.

Sept 11th, 2011…Day of reflection

Today has been kind of a day of reflecting for me. I watched a lot of documentaries on TV after of course finally washing my truck and doing some laundry. A lot of today made me remember that I need to keep my family and friends first. I thought a lot of about life and how I try to be a leader in everything I do especially when I’m involved with my fraternity the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Those men mean more to me than they will ever know. I try to live every day as a zealous member of society and try to put the values Pike has taught me into action every day of my life.

Today was also a reflection about the men & women who serve or have died in the war on terrorism. I’m forever, grateful, to these men & women for their service to our country and love them dearly. U.S. Marine Cpl. James Heath McRae was one of my best friends growing up and he is truly some one who I admire for his bravery and dedication to keep us safe. He is truly missed and I can’t wait to see the memorial in our hometown that is being constructed as soon as it’s finished. Below is picture of the memorial that is being constructed. Love and miss you Heath.

These men below are my fraternity brothers of Pike and I pray that they stay safe.
Thank you for your dedication to our country and to Pike. phi phi k a
Jon Panama Cooper, John Melton and Will Sward.

One of my favorite pics I’ve seen involving our troops.

I watched a great documentary on Sept 11th today and I hope if you get a chance you will also watch it. It was apparently the first time for some of this footage to be shown to a viewing audience and I still can’t get over the sound of bodies hitting the building as people were jumping for their lives. It’s was also the first time that I’ve ever heard the “F” word used on prime time television and not be bleeped. I commend the television network for keeping it real and sharing this incredible footage and story with the rest of the world.
